THE GUN & SHELL FACTORY Co-Operative Society Ltd.

The History of Co-operative movement started probably in the year 1844 in England. Robert Owen (1771–1858) is considered as the father of the cooperative movement. In India the Co-operative movement and its journey started probably in 1904. In that movement those who had significant contribution were Daniel Hamilton, Bipin Ch. Pal, Prafulla Ch. Roy, Rabindranath Tagore, Arobinda Ghosh, Subhash Ch. Bose, Najrul Islam, Dhananjoy Rao Gadgil etc.
In the year 1921 only 12 optimistic members created an employee’s co-operative society named as ‘The Gun & Shell factory Co-operative Society Ltd’ to save the factory employees from the exploitation of the money lenders. The society was registered on 11th July, 1921 under West Bengal Society Act and the registration number is 206.
